On November 12th COFI / Canada Wood Tokyo celebrated our 50th anniversary in Japan. To commemorate this milestone a Wood Forum and Reception were held at the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo.
From November 11–15, Canada Wood Japan hosted a trade mission led by Alberta's Minister of Forests and Parks, the Honourable Todd Loewen. The mission strengthened trade ties and expanded opportunities in Japan’s growing market.

Canadian OSB – Constructing a strong building while reducing construction costs
As part of the Canada Wood Case Study project, we recently visited a 1-storey 2×4 fire-proof building under construction in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. This will hold a relocated head office and expanded warehouse for a company distributing machinery parts, which had seen their business grow to the point where their present warehouse had become too cramped.
The Alberta Forestry Mission toured the “Family Hospice Kamishakuji House,” a 3-storey, 1,400 m² facility in Tokyo's Nerima Ward. Built with 250 m³ of Canadian SPF, OSB, and Hemlock, this 2×4 project highlights the use of 1-hour MLIT fire-resistive approvals, enabling Canadian wood products to expand into Japan’s non-residential and mid-rise construction market.
